TSP L 2080 Fund

You’re early. Impressively early.

The TSP L 2080 Fund doesn’t exist yet — we expect it to launch on June 30, 2030, roughly four years from now. The fact that you’re already looking for it may make you the most forward-thinking retirement investor in the federal workforce. We salute you.

Following the TSP’s usual five-year cadence, the L 2080 Fund will be designed for the youngest investors yet: those born after 2014, or anyone who plans to begin withdrawing from their account in 2078 or later. If that’s you, and you’re already researching your TSP options — bravo. Most of your peers are still deciding on a college major.

About TSP Lifecycle Funds

TSP Lifecycle Funds provide a streamlined, “all-in-one” investment approach, blending diversification with a hands-off management style. As investors approach their retirement date, the fund’s managers gradually shift the asset allocation from growth-focused stocks to conservative bonds, reducing volatility. This transition is preprogrammed and managed on your behalf. The fund managers also maintain the target mix — no need for annual rebalancing.

What to Expect from the L 2080 Fund

The TSP fund managers describe the Lifecycle Funds as a “diversified mix of the five individual funds (G, F, C, S, and I).” If the L 2080 Fund follows the pattern of its older siblings, it will begin life invested almost entirely in stocks — essentially a portfolio of the C, S, and I Funds — and stay that way until around October 2052. Its initial allocation will likely look a lot like the L 2075 Fund’s did at launch: roughly 0.36% G, 0.64% F, 51.48% C, 12.87% S, and 34.65% I Fund. That high equity exposure supports long-term growth, but it also comes with periods of significant volatility, so future L 2080 investors should be prepared for both.

We’d love to show you performance charts, but the fund needs to, you know, exist first. Once it launches and starts building a track record, we’ll update this page with the same performance and risk analysis you’ll find on our other TSP fund pages.

In the Meantime

Four years is a long time to hit refresh. Here’s what we suggest instead:

  • Take a look at the L 2075 Fund — the L 2080’s closest older sibling, and nearly identical to what the L 2080 will look like at launch.
  • Sign up for free updates to get TSP fund prices and performance by email — we’ll be covering the L 2080 Fund the moment it goes live.
  • Bookmark this page and swing by again in June 2030. We’ll leave the light on.
